Building Our Own Website: A Journey of Creativity, Strategy, and A Few Late Nights
For months, we’ve been working behind the scenes on something truly special: a brand-new website for The Bonnie Pixel!
As a web design studio dedicated to crafting stunning, high-converting websites for wedding professionals, we knew our own site had to be more than just a portfolio—it had to embody the very experience we create for our clients.
And let’s be honest—designing for yourself is hard.
When we work with clients, we guide them through a structured, strategic process, helping them refine their brand, clarify their messaging, and create a website that connects with their dream clients. But when it came to building our own website? Let’s just say there were a few extra cups of coffee involved.
Now, as we put the final touches on https://thebonniepixel.com, we’re beyond excited to share the process, the challenges, and what you can expect when the site officially launches.
Why We Chose Showit (Again!)
We’ve been singing Showit’s praises for some time, and when it came to our own site, there was no question—it had to be built on Showit.
Creative Freedom: We wanted total design flexibility to create something unique and custom.
Mobile-First Approach: Knowing that most wedding professionals’ clients browse on their phones, we put extra emphasis on a seamless mobile experience.
WordPress Blogging Power: With Showit’s WordPress integration, we can share valuable content (like this post!) while maintaining a beautifully designed front-end.
As we always say—if your website is your digital storefront, Showit is the perfect place to create an inviting, high-converting space that reflects your brand.
The Design Process: What We Learned Designing for Ourselves
We tell our clients that the best websites aren’t just visually stunning—they are strategically designed to guide visitors through a journey. But when you’re the client? The process feels different.
Here’s what we learned along the way:
1. Clarity Before Creativity
Before we even touched design, we had to ask ourselves the same questions we ask our clients:
Who are we speaking to?
What problems do they have, and how does our website solve them?
What action do we want visitors to take?
Without this foundation, even the most beautiful website won’t convert.
2. Simplify, Then Simplify Again
One of the biggest struggles was resisting the temptation to overcomplicate. We had so many ideas, features, and animations we could add—but would they enhance the user experience or just add clutter?
After countless revisions, we landed on a design that feels luxurious yet effortless—exactly how we want our clients to feel when working with us.
3. The Power of Mobile Optimization
With wedding professionals’ audiences primarily browsing on mobile, we knew our mobile design had to be just as refined as our desktop version. That meant:
- Larger, tap-friendly buttons
- Optimized image sizes for fast loading
- A user-friendly mobile menu for easy navigation
If you’re launching a new website (or revamping an old one), prioritizing mobile isn’t optional—it’s essential.

What You Can Expect From Our New Website
